Research Focus: Determination of the mixing time in microstructured reactors
In collaboration with Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik GmbH, we are investigating mixing time as a key parameter for evaluating mixing behavior in microstructured reactors. For the experimental characterization of microstructured mixers, the Villermaux-Dushman reaction is used as the gold standard. In combination with various modeling approaches, the micro mixing time is derived from this.
A particular focus is placed on the development of experimental methods for characterizing multiphase reactions in microreactors. The goal is to develop data-driven models for determining mixing time even under complex flow conditions.
To carry out the experimental series efficiently, an automation concept is also being developed, based on machine learning methods for intelligent experimental design. This is intended to enable robust, cost-efficient, and time-saving characterization.
